Birmingham: A study reported that mental Pressure Eating foods high in fat during pregnancy can impair the body’s ability to recover from the effects of stress.
Eating high-fat foods during times of stress can impair arterial performance by reducing oxygen access to the brain.
Researchers from the University of Birmingham recruited a group of healthy young people for the study and gave them buttered croissants for breakfast. Afterwards, they were given an eight-minute mental math exercise that increased in speed over time, during which they were warned for each wrong answer.
Lead author Rosalind Benham, a doctoral student at the University of Birmingham, said the experiment was designed to model everyday stressors at work or at home.
He said that when we are under stress, different things happen in our body, our heart rate and blood pressure increase, blood vessels dilate and blood circulation in the brain increases. Researchers know that stress reduces the elasticity of arteries.
According to Rosalind Benham, the study found that the consumption of fatty foods during depression decreased arterial efficiency by 1.74. Whereas previous studies have shown that a 1 percent decrease in exercise is associated with a 13 percent increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease.
The team observed negative effects of fat consumption on mood during and after periods of stress.
