Night shift and related medical problems

Amsterdam Dam: A new study has found that more than half of people who work night shift jobs have at least one sleep-related medical problem.

According to data from the US Bureau of Labor, about 15% of American workers do not have a daytime shift schedule.

Dr. Marek Lancel, professor of behavioral and social sciences at the Mental Health Institute of GGZ Drenthe in the Netherlands and senior author of the study, said night labor disrupts the body’s ‘clock’.

About 51 percent of people who work nights have at least one medical problem related to sleep, he said.

Dr Marek added that working night shifts leads to persistent poor sleep compared to working regular daytime shifts.

The doctor added that there is a lot of evidence that night shifts reduce sleep quality, but little information is available about how different job shifts affect specific sleep disorders. .
