A working group was established to implement the artificial rain project in Lahore.
The decision to establish a working group was taken in a meeting held at the Civil Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Punjab. The working group consists of representatives of the relevant federal and provincial departments and military institutions associated with research. The officials of the Department of Environmental Protection gave a briefing on the method of cloud seeding and cloud ionization for artificial rain. In the meeting, the progress on the installation projects of Smog Reduction Tower in Lahore was also reviewed.
The first trial for cloud seeding is expected in 4 to 6 weeks. Cloud seeding through chemical processes using aircraft is highly dependent on meteorological conditions, cloud formation. MoU with Dubai company for cloud integration is in final stages.
In the next six weeks, cloud ionization will be tested at selected locations in Lahore through five systems provided by the Dubai company. A team of experts will go to China next month to install smog reduction towers in Lahore. A monitoring cell is being established in the Environment Protection Department to monitor the projects.
Air pollution has taken hold in Lahore. In terms of air pollution, Lahore ranks first in the world. The city has recorded an Air Quality Index of 436.
