A policy draft for teachers licensing has been prepared in Sindh, after the final approval from the Sindh cabinet, the province will become the first province in the country to issue teachers professional licensing.
In this regard, the 14th meeting of the board of Sindh Teachers Education Development Authority Steda (STEDA) was held under the chairmanship of Minister of Education and Culture Sindh Syed Sardar Ali Shah, in which Secretary School Education Sindh Ghulam Akbar Laghari, Executive Director Steda and other board members. attended
In the meeting, a detailed discussion was held regarding the teachers’ licensing policy. The provincial education minister said that serious efforts will be continued to make the teaching sector a credible profession.
We want a teacher to grow in his profession as well as in the service structure after getting a job. After the approval of the Teachers Licensing Policy by the Cabinet, a licensed teacher will be able to get a job in Grade 16.
Sindh will be the first province in the country to issue Teachers Professional Licensing to become a teacher in the province. All stages of license registration will be digitized.
The license will be valid for 5 years on the direction of Sardar Shah, renewable on application basis. In case of failure in the test required for licensing, the test can be given again after 6 months. There are two categories for the license Professional Teaching License (Elementary) and Professional Teaching License (Secondary).
Sardar Shah said that teachers already in the system will be given promotions and other incentives if they pass the test for licensing. Qualification for the licensing test requires a B.Ed. Honors or MA Education degree and three years of experience.
Various training modules will be developed by Steda to facilitate Continuous Professional Development (CPD). Teachers recruited in Grade 16 will be promoted to Grade 20 on the basis of training.
As in other civil services, the importance of this profession will increase as the grade of teachers increases on the basis of training. Teachers will not have to wait for the time scale for promotion. Under Teachers Licensing, 700 new posts will be recruited in the first phase.
Sardar Shah established a committee headed by Qazi Kabir. The committee will be bound to make rules regarding the appointment of the head of Stida. In addition to the bureaucracy, market base professional persons will also be accommodated for the Head of STADA.
It was also agreed in the meeting that Steda will lead the implementation of the Teachers’ Professional Licensing Policy. Proposals to merge other training institutions PITE and TTI with Stida will be presented in the next meeting.
