Drugs are being smuggled by affixing professional number plates on official vehicles, Peshawar High Court

During the hearing in Peshawar High Court, it has been revealed that official vehicles with professional number plates are being used for drug smuggling.

The written judgment of the Peshawar High Court drug case was written by Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, in which it was written that in many cases, it was observed that vehicles with departmental, professional and private number plates were used for drug trafficking.

He said that on September 9 in Mardan, the police caught a vehicle with the number plate of Peshawar High Court Bar Association through which drugs were being smuggled. The court wrote in the written judgment that traffickers use vehicles with number plates of health department, lawyers, judiciary, police and excise etc. to avoid the sight of law enforcement agencies.

The written decision said that all officers, whether official or private, will wear the number plates allotted to them by the government.

The Peshawar High Court banned the installation of professional number plates in the vehicles of various departments to prevent drug trafficking and ordered the government to take legal action against all vehicles with such number plates.

In the judgment, the court said that apart from the official number plate, departmental, professional or any private number plate should be removed from the vehicles.

The court ordered that the Additional Registrar send a copy of the High Court judgment to the Chief Secretary, IG Police, Secretary Excise, Director of Prosecution, Registrar High Court and Secretary KP Barconsul.
