Karachi: The Health Department of Sindh has issued an advisory in view of the fear of the spread of the Congo virus. Through the advisory, small and big hospitals across Sindh have been instructed to take precautionary measures against the Congo virus.
According to the advisory, 8 cases of Congo virus CCHF have been reported in Civil Hospital Quetta, health care workers have also been affected by Congo virus, and there are also reports of the martyrdom of Dr. Shukrullah Baloch.
Congo virus is usually transmitted from animals to humans. Health care workers and the public should take precautionary measures to prevent Congo virus. Inform teams, and relevant health professionals.
Immediately isolate suspected or confirmed cases in designated isolation rooms. Infection control measures necessary to prevent the spread of disease Ensure that health care workers have appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gowns, gloves, masks, and eye protection when dealing with suspected or confirmed cases. Access is available.
The advisory also states to implement strict infection control measures, including appropriate disinfection and sterilization procedures, and to adopt standard precautions for handling blood and body fluids in the hospital or ward, such as waste management. and establish protocols for environmental disinfection.
Establish and implement a triage system to isolate and prioritize patients, identify and monitor individuals who have been in contact with suspected or confirmed cases for symptoms.
According to the Department of Health, establish mechanisms to trace and monitor contacts in the hospital and possibly in the community as the disease may spread. Report the suspected or confirmed case immediately to the Focal Person. Designate the Focal Person and share the contact details with this Directorate within next hours.
