A woman died after falling from the lift along with the stretcher in a private hospital

Karachi: As a result of the alleged negligence of the staff of a private hospital in Karimabad, a woman who was giving birth to a new-born child was thrown from the stretcher towards the elevator.

As a result of the alleged negligence and carelessness of the staff of Semrose Hospital near Gulbarg police station area, a woman who gave birth to a newborn fell from the lift along with the stretcher and died. The body of the woman was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal proceedings. The deceased woman was identified as Samia Zoja Ashar.

The deceased woman was a resident of Gulistan Johar Block 2 and a BDS doctor and was employed at Darul Sahat Hospital in Gulistan Johar. The deceased lady had given birth to a baby girl a few hours before the incident.

SSP Central Maru Usman said that the hospital staff was taking the deceased woman on a stretcher from the ground floor to the second floor of the hospital. After reaching the second floor, the hospital staff was taking the woman out of the elevator. Half of the woman was in the elevator, suddenly the elevator started moving towards the third floor and the woman fell down on the empty space of the elevator along with the stretcher and died.

He said that the woman’s death was due to head injury, but the police are conducting their investigation in this regard and will reach some conclusion soon.

The Health Commission is responsible for action against the hospital

The Sindh Health Department said that the Sindh Health Department is unable to take action against the private hospital, this is the responsibility of the Sindh Healthcare Commission.

Sindh Healthcare Commission Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Ahsan Qavi said that it is our authority to take action against the negligence of the private hospital, but we are only receiving information from the media, but we have not received any complaints from the relatives, Sindh. The Healthcare Commission can take action against this hospital only on the complaint of the relatives.

The administration of private hospital Simrose has said that as soon as we were transferring the patient to the second floor, at that time half of the stretcher was inside and half outside and the lift immediately moved upwards as a result of which the stretcher fell down, in this lift. There were two employees of our staff, God saved their lives, both of them are now in the emergency department, as soon as they fell, we jumped in and gave them emergency treatment, CPR on the spot and later IC. They were taken to U also, there was no complaint about the lift before, otherwise we would not have used it, we are there to save human lives, our hospital lift is maintained every fortnight.

According to the sources, later the team of Sindh Healthcare Commission visited the hospital and while reviewing the situation, asked the hospital administration for their maintenance log, but the hospital administration has assured to submit the next report from Sindh Healthcare Commission.

The elevator of Simroza Hospital was already damaged, the family said
