The ongoing Minutes (Rodad) of the decisions of the Steering Committee meeting by the Department of School Education Sindh has created confusion and anxiety in the educational circles of the entire province.
According to Express News, the minutes related to the annual academic calendar have been released in a hurry in the steering committee meeting. In the minutes issued by the steering committee, it has been recommended to change the paper pattern of exams of classes 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th and conduct annual inter exams before and after matriculation.
The meeting of the steering committee of the education department was held on September 19 under the chairmanship of Caretaker Education Minister Rana Hussain and the minutes of the meeting were released on September 27 in which the paper pattern of matriculation and inter annual examinations across Sindh was again changed. It was discussed and the proportion of questions containing MCQs in the annual exams has been increased on the pattern of the exams taken during the period of Covid-19 and it has been said that the question paper will be 60% descriptive and 40% objective (MCQs).
It should also be noted that after four or five years the MCQs have been brought back to 20% from the previous session while the remaining 80% is descriptive with 40% short answers and 40% detailed answers.
Further, according to the ongoing minutes of the steering committee, the annual inter exams were conducted before and after matriculation in all over Sindh. In the minutes issued, it has been said that Sindh Inter annual examinations should be started on April 20, 2024, while matriculation should be started on May 17, 2024, one month after that.
Besides, in this meeting held by the steering committee, a sub-committee was formed for the final decision regarding the dates of the examinations and the commencement of the new academic session 2024, which has to submit its recommendations on these proposals.
Express contacted the Secretary Schools Education Shireen Narejo regarding this, initially she asked for some time and later she said that these minutes have been wrongly issued, consider it cancelled. We are releasing the correct minutes soon to clear the confusion.
Shireen Narejo said that the steering committee has entrusted these matters to the sub-committee. Final decisions regarding exams, session and paper pattern will be made in the light of the recommendations of this committee.
