Children from middle-class families are the most affected by Corona, research

Glasgow: According to a new study, middle class children were the most affected in the global epidemic of Corona. Children suffering severe mental problems during the epidemic may affect their education in the future.

Children whose parents were employed, cohabiting and highly educated had more mental health problems than their younger peers.

According to experts, families who had to work from home and homeschool during the pandemic experienced more stress, while government aid for the deserving proved effective. As a result, the gap between poor and rich children’s mental health narrowed.

The study warned that the problem could have long-lasting effects on children, as children’s poor mental health affects their ability to engage in learning.

In a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, researchers at the University of Glasgow analyzed data from 9,272 children.

Between 2011 and 2019, when the children were between five and eight years old, their mental health was reported by their parents by filling out a standardized questionnaire. were also collected in 2021 when the children were between eight and 11 years old.

The results of the study showed that rich children had more mental problems than disadvantaged children during the global pandemic. For example, children whose parents were unemployed and children whose parents were employed had a mean score of 2.35 before the pandemic, which decreased to 0.02 during the pandemic.
