Karachi: Karachi Wholesale Grocers Association has announced closure of all wholesale commodity markets on Monday against commodity shops, warehouse raids and fines and sealing of shops.
Chairman of the association, Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, along with other officials, while addressing a press conference in Jodia Bazaar on Friday, said that between Thursday and Friday night, the administration has sealed 125 wholesale shops and warehouses and imposed heavy fines.
He said that most of these shops were also closed, therefore giving an ultimatum to the Karachi administration till Monday to de-seal the closed shops and godowns, withdraw the heavy fines.
He said that if the shops and warehouses are not de-sealed, the wholesale markets of other areas including Jodiabazar will also be closed on Monday.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahim said that we are not against the crackdown against hoarding, but are also ready to cooperate with the administration, but the administration is taking actions against hoarding in the wrong direction.
He said that the administration needs to crack down on hoarding at sugar mills and their secret warehouses, he said that the wholesaler’s limited stock is being considered as hoarding, the administration should crack down on genuine hoarders and black marketing. Take action against the perpetrators.
He said that the administration of Karachi should determine the wholesale and retail prices of all commodities including flour and sugar.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahim said that although the definition of hoarding is not clearly defined in the law, but a wholesaler is authorized to keep 100 tons of commodities, due to lack of system at the administrative level, there is no system of hoarding and pricing. Is.
He said that on Thursday, the x mill price of sugar per kg had decreased to Rs 140, but after the crackdown, the price of sugar per kg x mill has increased again to Rs 147 on Friday.

Abdul Raouf Ibrahim said that the administration should also have a rule for issuing challans. There is a scam of 165 billion rupees in sugar, the relevant institutions should crack down on those who looted 165 billion rupees from the pockets of people by betting on sugar.
