Yasir Hussain spoke against the ban on the drama "Accident".

Karachi: Actor Yasir Hussain spoke against PEMRA’s ban on drama “Accident”.

Yasir Hussain in a message shared on Instagram in defense of the drama’s producers Wajahat Rauf and Shazia Wajahat said that Wajahat and Shazia are very old friends of mine and I can say one thing with certainty that they do not work for ratings. These are people with heart, not heartbreakers.

The actor further said that in this era of inflation, it is not right to waste one’s hard work, it would be better to write a play and get it approved by PEMRA instead of banning the play after it is made.

It should be remembered that Pemra had imposed a ban on the accident drama aired on a private TV channel on August 30. PEMRA in its statement said that many complaints have been received regarding the content of the said play, after which the matter has been referred to the body’s Committee Council of Complaints imposing an immediate ban on it under Section 27 of the PEMRA Act.

The drama is alleged to be based on the incident of a woman who was gang-raped after being kidnapped on a motorway near Lahore in 2020.

This issue was raised when journalist Fareeha Idris said in a long tweet that the victim of the motorway accident had called her and said in a painful voice that she was in great pain because of this drama. Her story is being shown on TV and the things she wants to forget are being relived.

According to Fareeha Idris, the victim told her that her family, in-laws, children and family were watching her rape story on TV. It was better that they die that day than see that day. The lady also said that every evening at 5 pm she starts shivering because the drama starts at 7 pm.

After this tweet of Fariha Idris, social media users expressed their anger and demanded an immediate ban on the play and strict action from PEMRA against the makers of the play.

It should be noted that the producers of the drama, Wajahat Rauf, Shazia Wajahat and the lead actress Hadiqa Kayani have consistently denied that the story of the drama has anything to do with the motorway rape incident.
