Google Chrome is going to make a major change for iPhone users

California: Google Chrome is preparing to replace the address bar in iPhone.

Tech analysts have noted the move of the URL address bar (called the ‘omnibox’) in Google Chrome to the bottom of the screen, just like in Apple’s built-in browser. .

This change is optional and users will have the option to position the omnibox at the top or bottom of the screen under the new address bar setting.

Chrome has been supporting toolbars at the bottom of the screen since 2018 in iOS, the exact same feature was tested but not fully implemented in Android.

For this feature users will need two things. One will have to enroll in test flight updates for Google Chrome on iOS, which will get beta versions of the browser on iPhone and iPad.

Also, the user has to type “chrome://flags” in the address bar and look for the omnibox at the bottom, after turning it on, the browser has to be restarted. Users can then switch the address bar location in Chrome’s settings by going to iOS Settings.

No announcement has been made as to when the feature, which is currently undergoing testing in beta, will be rolled out to users.

On the other hand, there are no signs of the browser introducing this feature to Android devices.
