Indian space mission Chandrayaan-3 lands on the moon, Chandrayaan-3 lander Vikram has landed on the surface of the south pole of the moon.
India became the first country in the world to reach the South Pole of the Moon and the fourth country in the world to make a soft landing on the Moon.
Earlier, US, Russia and China have made soft landings near the lunar equator.
British media say the moon’s south pole is still largely unexplored, with Chandrayaan 3 landing in the far south pole region.
It is also called the ‘dark side of the moon’ due to its permanent shadow.
It is most likely that the part of the moon that is in the shadow has signs of presence of water.
India had previously launched two missions to the South Pole of the Moon which failed.
It may be noted that the Chandrayaan-3 mission was launched from the state of Andhra Pradesh on July 14. It landed on the moon after a long journey of 40 days.
