Big success of Karachi students, joining NASA space camp

KARACHI: A few students from Shahr Quaid have got the honor of joining the NASA space camp in America after getting the attention of the authorities due to their deep fascination with science.

According to the details, with the financial assistance of the American Consulate General Karachi, successful students in scientific competitions got a great opportunity to join NASA’s space camp. 24 students belonged to three schools in Karachi, who participated in the American Space and Rocket Center. Participated in Space Camp.

This space camp is located in the city of Huntsville, Alabama, USA. This activity was organized in collaboration with the US Consulate General Karachi and the Dawood Foundation, with the aim of teaching science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in 50 schools in Karachi. Education was to be promoted.

The US grant consists of three parts: STEM training for 100 Pakistani teachers and an educational tour for more than 1,000 students at the Magnify Science Center and a culminating science project competition.

The initiative will encourage students to pursue careers in science fields, thereby helping to meet the growing demand for STEM graduates in industry, academia, and research, a long-standing gap in the U.S. There is continued support for the promotion of STEM education in Pakistan through educational programs, including sending Pakistani students to space camps in 2011 and 2015.

US Consul General Nicole Theriot expressed her happiness on this occasion and said, “We have been able to send bright and talented young students to space camp in America, who will develop Pakistan through eco-friendly technologies and entrepreneurship with creativity.” is a reward for these committed students, and we are proud to promote the US-Pakistan ‘Green Alliance’ framework.”

It may be noted that competitions on the topic of environmental sustainability and entrepreneurship were organized at the inter-school level, and science kits were provided to the competing teams of all the schools. , which resulted in all three teams of 24 students and three teachers recently traveling to Huntsville, Alabama to participate in a space camp.

These projects were as follows:

• KMA Girls and Boys Primary School Team: “Chicken Feathers – Go Green Before Green Dies.” In this project, chicken feathers were used to make paper.

• Evergreen Elementary School Team: “Anti-Sleep Goggles” This project developed anti-sleep goggles with built-in alarms to help reduce the incidence of car accidents due to tired drivers. are

• KMA Boys Secondary School Team: “Roads Made of Plastic.” Under this project, roads will be built from used plastics that can have a life of more than 50 years.
