PIA lost billions due to incompetence of PTI government, Prime Minister

Lahore: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that due to the incompetence of the PTI government, the national airline lost billions of rupees.

A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the restoration of PIA (Pakistan International Airlines), in which Federal Ministers Khawaja Saad Rafique, Azam Nazir Tarar, Advisor to Prime Minister Ahad Khan Cheema and related officials participated. of

Federal Ministers Syed Naveed Qamar, Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Special Assistant Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan and concerned officials participated through video link.

The Prime Minister has formed a high-level committee headed by the Finance Minister for restructuring, reforms and rehabilitation of the national airline, which will submit its suggestions and recommendations regarding PIA to the cabinet after Eid.

Federal Minister of Railways and Aviation Khawaja Saad Rafiq gave a detailed briefing to the Prime Minister regarding the proposed road map and reforms for the improvement of PIA, on which the Prime Minister praised the efforts of the Federal Minister of Railways and Aviation related to PIA.

Speaking to the participants, the Prime Minister said that the national airline has the ability to come out of the deficit, the number of aircraft in the fleet must be increased from 27 to 49 to get the national airline out of the current crisis.

He said that due to the irresponsible statements of the previous government, the national airline lost the air routes of Europe and America due to which the PTI faced loss of billions. Investors, Chinese companies and Turkish businessmen were targeted for retaliation.

Shahbaz Sharif said that PIA can develop only if it is run by professional management experts on the basis of profit and loss. Reforms are indispensable to bring the national airline out of losses. The government should come up with such a policy system. It is moving towards where the government’s job will be only to make policy decisions and provide facilities to investors, entrepreneurs and companies.

Formation of a committee to revive PIA

In the meeting, a committee was formed regarding the reorganization, reforms and rehabilitation of PIA, whose members include Federal Minister of Finance Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister of Railways and Aviation Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Federal Minister of Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant Jahanzeb Khan and Secretary Aviation will join.

The committee headed by Ishaq Dar will examine various options regarding the restructuring and rehabilitation of PIA and will submit its recommendations in this regard to the Cabinet after Eid.
