A joint consultative committee formed by the Foreign Ministry of Egypt and Qatar held a meeting in Cairo to review regional and bilateral issues.
The foreign ministries of the two countries said that the first meeting of the committee was held on Sunday, which shows that the ice is melting in the relations between Egypt and Qatar.
In 2017, Egypt cut ties with Qatar along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
The position of these countries was that Qatar was supporting extremist groups with close ties to Iran.
Egypt has accused Qatar of funding the Muslim Brotherhood, which Cairo declared a banned terrorist organization in 2013.
Reconciliation between the two countries began when Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad visited Cairo for joint talks in June last year.
In response, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi came to Doha in September, the two leaders also met during a soccer World Cup match and later met in Abu Dhabi last month.
Qatar has increased its investment in Egypt over the past year.
Qatar’s wealth fund has bought shares of several Egyptian state-owned companies and deposited $5 billion in the central bank to help Egypt deal with the economic crisis.
