Israel will lay a 254 km long fiber optic cable between the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.
The Israeli Finance Ministry said that this cable will establish a permanent connection between Europe, the Gulf and Asian countries.
Israel’s state-owned Energy Group (EAPC) operates an oil pipeline from the Mediterranean port of Ashkelon to Eilat.
EAPC Chief Executive Itzic Levy said that through the project, Israel will become a means of connecting the Gulf countries and Asia with Europe.
The Ministry of Finance said that any telecom company licensed in Israel can be connected with this new fiber optic cable.
It should be noted that EAPC (Europe Asia Pipeline Company) offers its own pipeline in the Suez Canal as an alternative.
The Ministry of Finance says that by laying a fiber optic cable along the pipeline, oil leakage in the line will also be detected.
