Sri Lanka: Largest stone ever removed from patient's kidney

Colombo: Sri Lankan army doctors have removed the largest ever stone from the kidney of a 62-year-old retired soldier.

According to the Sri Lankan military, the weight of the stone removed from former Sergeant Kenstus Konj was 801 grams, which is five times the weight of an average male kidney.

Conge’s kidney stone was 5.26 inches long, while an average kidney is 10 to 12 centimeters long. The world’s largest and heaviest stone has been surgically removed at the Army Hospital in Colombo, the army said.

On the other hand, the patient told in a TV interview that he had stomach pain since 2020 and there was no relief from medicines. “I was told to undergo surgery after the recent scan and now I feel normal,” he said.

According to the Guinness World Records, this Sri Lankan case has broken the record of removing a 620 gram kidney stone from a Pakistani patient in 2008.
