Islamabad: The Supreme Court has said on the request of judicial inquiry against 436 Pakistanis of Jamaat-e-Islami in the Panama Papers case that you remembered after seven years that it is a matter of public interest. At that time, what was the purpose of running the Panama case against only one family?
A two-member bench headed by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood heard the petition filed in the Supreme Court for investigation against 436 Pakistanis in the Panama Papers case. Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami’s lawyer requested a judicial commission to investigate these Pakistanis.
Justice Sardar Tariq remarked that you remembered after 7 years that it is a matter of public interest? At that time, what was the purpose of running the Panama case against only one family? That was also the case of Panama, this is also the case of Panama, why didn’t they say in front of the court at that time that this is the case of all the people and should be heard together? The court asked the lawyer of Jamaat-e-Islami that the petition against 436 Pakistanis in 2017 was delinked on your request.
During the hearing, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood remarked that I don’t want to say, but it seems to me something else, at that time the bench had given you such a big relief, why didn’t you ask in front of this bench to listen to it? Have you applied to any institution for an investigation in 7 years? Where did you fulfill your responsibility? Order NAB or any other institution to investigate? Should the Supreme Court do all the work here? How to order action against 436 servants without giving them notice?
The court inquired that how can the Supreme Court conduct an investigation in the presence of investigative agencies including FBR, State Bank, NAB? If the Supreme Court formed a judicial commission in the presence of investigative agencies, how will they do this work?
Later, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of the case for a month.
