paralysis; Symptoms and precautions

A stroke is caused by a blockage or leak in a blood vessel in the brain that leads to insufficient oxygen and nutrient supply and results in damage or destruction of brain cells.

It affects specific brain functions such as body movements and speech. Some patients may experience further reductions in their ability to care. There are two main types of stroke. ‘Ischemic stroke’ is caused by a sudden loss or renewal of blood flow to the brain and is very common.

That is, more than 80 percent of strokes are related to this type, other causes include atherosclerosis in the cerebral arteries and the formation of blood clots in other parts of the body, especially the heart. In ‘hemorrhagic stroke’, a blood vessel in the brain bursts as a result of certain diseases like high blood pressure etc.

Symptoms of stroke

Most people have no symptoms before a stroke. The appearance of a stroke depends on the location of the blood vessel as well as the degree of damage. Patients should see a doctor immediately when the following symptoms appear.

1. The condition of hearing, in the face, an organ or any part of the body.

2. Limb and physical weakness usually on one side of the body.

3. Sudden loss of balance.

4. Unclear conversation. Drooling, difficulty swallowing, crooked mouth.

5. Blurred vision, double vision

6. Drowsiness, coma.

7. Sudden persistent severe headache, persistent dizziness.

A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a transient episode of neurologic dysfunction caused by focal brain, spinal cord, or retinal ischemia that usually lasts less than 24 hours. A patient may have a TIA once or more.

It can also be a sign that an actual stroke is about to occur. One type of stroke is rupture of a blood vessel, another is a blockage in the blood vessels of the brain, heart failure, heart valve failure, fatty deposits in the arteries of the neck, some of the symptoms of a stroke that occurred a week ago. They appear.

Stroke is a disease during which the brain is damaged and a part of the body is paralyzed and its effects can be minimized if proper treatment is received in time, however, most people mistake the symptoms of this life-threatening disease for other medical conditions. Problems are understood and treatment is delayed.

A stroke is actually similar to a heart attack, but it targets the brain instead of the heart. There are two types of stroke, one is a blocked blood vessel resulting in reduced blood supply to the brain.

The second type is one in which a blood vessel starts leaking into the brain. Symptoms of both these types of stroke are similar. Familiarity with them is essential for every individual. Medical experts say that these extreme symptoms of stroke in different forms start appearing a week before the actual stroke.

Loss of hearing in a part of the body or inability to walk, unable to speak or understand words. Too much mental confusion, face drooping on one side and not being able to smile. Severe headache and vomiting, difficulty seeing in one or both eyes, difficulty in walking, difficulty in swallowing, difficulty in maintaining body balance, staggering while walking due to loss of body balance, severe weakness, emaciation , you can save your life or that of someone in your household if you seek immediate medical attention as soon as you notice these symptoms.

Why does stroke happen and how can it be prevented?

The Sayans have said that movement is blessed. Movement is one of the signs of life.

If for some reason the movement is reduced and the body has to sit still for a long time, a condition in which the mind is not usually paralyzed, but a part of the body may suddenly stop working. It is a state in which consciousness often remains, but the body loses excitement and passion, limits are imposed on infinite life.

Power over oneself, one’s body, one’s body ceases, the waking life lived can be limited to trembling and shaking. Often one has to depend on others for their basic needs and daily needs. This state of paralysis and disability of a part of the body due to paralysis is called stroke in English.

According to an estimate, more than 350,000 people suffer from stroke every year in Pakistan. About 70 percent of these people end up with some kind of permanent disability due to stroke. According to another estimate, nearly one million people in Pakistan are suffering from some form of disability due to stroke.

Similarly, 20 percent of people die. Stroke is a unique and complex disease in another respect. On the one hand, it causes suffering for the patient himself, on the other hand, the long and patient phase of patient care and maintenance is also faced by the family members.

What is stroke?

We know that our mind controls our body movements, our speech, our language, our consciousness, our thinking. Just like any vehicle needs fuel, our brain needs oxygen, which it receives through the blood.

Now, if for some reason this blood supply to the brain is affected, obstructed or reduced, some brain cells die and the death of these cells results in symptoms of paralysis.

For example, if there is damage to the cells of our brain, which control our language, our speech, then we cannot speak due to paralysis.

Similarly, if the part of the brain that controls our physical movement is affected, we become physically paralyzed. After a stroke, the brain loses 1.9 million cells every minute that passes.

The longer the treatment is delayed, the more the risk of problems like speech difficulties, memory loss increases. Before and during a stroke, the blood pressure becomes very high and it becomes difficult to eat, drink or swallow anything.

People who are overweight or who smoke or drink alcohol, have high blood pressure, are diabetic, suffer from persistent depression or anxiety, are at a higher risk of stroke. If such people have a stroke, the chance of death can increase up to 55%.

Similarly, people with high salt intake and those over 50 years of age or those with an irregular heartbeat, a condition called atrial fibrillation, all have a higher risk of stroke. are closer to Fatty people who are fond of chicken diets, who are sedentary and do not exercise are also at risk of stroke.

How can we prevent stroke? Control your blood pressure round the clock, exercise daily. Reducing fat and trans fat in your diet reduces the risk of stroke. Reduce consumption of sweets and fats, quit smoking.

Eat a balanced diet based on fruits, vegetables, fish, lean meats and whole grains. Eat more apples. Increase consumption of tomatoes. Reduce salt intake. The best way to treat stroke is to keep blood pressure under control, take special care of cleanliness.
