A similar incident happened in February 2023, Delhi Police arrested a 3-member gang for kidnapping pet dogs with the help of CCTC footage.
According to the Assam Police, investigation has revealed that the main reason for the theft of foreign breeds of dogs is that these dogs are resold for financial gain, another reason being that the kidnappers are often illegal. Dogs are picked up for breeding purposes of the same breed.

According to the Times of India report, an official of Bharat Animal Conservation said that these kidnappers are specifically targeting homes with exotic breeds to steal pets so that they can breed them and Can earn money.
Another reason for this has also come to light is that the trafficking of indigenous breeds of dogs in Assam is also linked to the consumption of dog meat in Nagaland.
