The Inoculation of Stigma - Express Urdu

In a true democratic system the existence of two or more political parties is inevitable. Political parties influence the voters through their manifesto, ideology and political philosophy to win their votes and form the government by winning elections.

American writer Mac Iver writes that “without political parties, formal statement of principle and manifesto is not possible. There will be no evolution of policy, parliamentary elections will not be held in a constitutional manner, and there will be no recognized institutions from which the party can gain political power.

The study of politics and democracy shows that political parties are a pillar in the establishment of a principled, civilized and dignified democratic society. Not only do they provide stability to the political, economic, social and justice system, but political parties help to move the system forward in a democratic way and play a key role in strengthening democracy. In developing countries, success and development depend on people’s confidence and dynamic political activities.

By awakening political consciousness and awareness among the people, political parties create political insight and understanding in them. For this reason, in politics, the most essential component of discipline and political development, i.e. leadership, is established. In other words, understand that the rise of leadership through political parties, ideas. Concept of governance, discipline, formation of government, participation of people in power, relationship of leader with people, political, parliamentary and legal issues and competition between ruling party and opposition etc. They happen in any democratic society.

The origin of political parties in Pakistan is from the founding party of this country, Muslim League. At the time of the establishment of Pakistan, the Muslim League had the patronage of people like Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Liaquat Ali Khan who were tall, ideological, principled, and had full faith in democratic values, but after the death of the Quaid, the top leadership of the Muslim League Deprived of it, it fell into disrepair and fell into the hands of people who lacked the spirit of public welfare, national service and patriotism. They had neither a comprehensive manifesto nor a programme.

Because of this, the Muslim League continued to suffer defeats and crises and gradually split into different factions, then each faction took the form of a separate political party in which personalityism prevailed. Instead, it went towards dictatorship. Convention Muslim League during the Ayub era, Muslim League Junejo during the Zia-ul-Haq era, Muslim League Nawaz, Muslim League under the name of Quaid-e-Azam during the Musharraf era have been active.

Today, the leader of the Muslim League (N) is Nawaz Sharif and the leader of the Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (Q-League) is Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. They are active in politics, but the personality of Nawaz Sharif is dominant. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto founded the Pakistan People’s Party in December 1967 to campaign against him during the Ayub era. After Bhutto’s execution, Benazir Bhutto took over the leadership, then after his martyrdom, Asif Zardari and now Bilawal Bhutto Zardari are leading the People’s Party.

During the Zia era, PPP was also broken, divided and divided into different factions, Bhutto’s charm is still the lifeblood of PPP. Similarly, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is actively involved in national politics under the leadership of Imran Khan. The magic of Imran Khan’s personality dominates in this party as well. Democracy is not the name of democracy within the party of politicians playing the tune of democracy.

In the three major political parties of the country, Muslim League (N), People’s Party and Tehreek-e-Insaaf, their leaders Bilawal Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan have a deep influence. Trying to put pressure on the leaders in every way is a characteristic of the three political parties mentioned above, the record is a witness that after the Benazir government came to power in 1988 and 1993, the Nawaz League and Nawaz Sharif’s government after winning the elections in 1990 and 1997. tried to harm the People’s Party in every way.

The tragedy of our political parties is that they have a crisis of leadership. That is, there is no ability to lead. American President Richard Nixon writes in his book Leaders that “a leader needs different qualities in different situations.” High intelligence, courage, strength, analysis, deep commitment to a larger cause and personal attraction are certainly key ingredients.”

Another tragedy is that the heads of political parties do not give political and moral training to their workers. They do not teach the skill of following ideology and principles, as a result, workers in every political party become emotional and tend towards extremism, then they do not come under the control of their leaders, which has been prominently demonstrated during the last two or three decades. Is.

Pressure groups and sub-organisations are formed within political parties which operate freely. Unfortunately, when extremist thinking flourishes and vengeful mood prevails and the activists become agitated and out of control, take the law into their own hands and resort to violence to express their anger, then May 9. As events arise, bloodthirsty acts like May 12, terrible tragedies like December 27, sometimes an attack on the Supreme Court, sometimes the house of the Corps Commander is set on fire, sometimes national and military installations. If they are targeted, sometimes the smell of gunpowder spreads in mosques, Imambargahs, schools and markets.

The tragedy is that no one is willing to accept the responsibility, instead they start throwing accusations at each other. This is what is being seen and heard after the bloodbath of May 9 after the arrest of Imran Khan. May 9th characters should be brought to justice according to law. Such heartbreaking incidents associated with the name of political party workers are a “taint” on the face of these parties, political leaders have to play their leadership role to address such incidents in future.
