Rangoon: Myanmar’s military has commuted the death sentences of 38 people in a series of amnesties for more than 2,000 political prisoners.

According to the World News Agency, Myanmar’s military government agreed to reduce the sentences of more than 2,000 political prisoners under international pressure and the death sentence of 38 prisoners was abolished in the initial stage.

However, it was not told what were the charges against these persons and how much the punishment has been reduced.

It should be noted that four opponents of the military coup were executed in Myanmar in July last year and more than 100 political prisoners are serving the death sentence on the gallows.

Myanmar’s military seized power in February 2021 after overthrowing an elected government and detaining ruler Aung San Suu Kyi, sparking unrest across the country.
