Washington: The US military has grounded aviation units for training after helicopter crashes in Alaska and Kentucky killed 12 soldiers last month.
Lt. Col. Terrence Kelly, an Army spokesman, said the suspension of air operations would take effect immediately, with units grounded until they completed training, according to U.S. media.
He added that Army National Guard and Reserve units will have time till May 31 to complete the training. The US Army said in a statement that all pilots, except those participating in critical missions, must complete the required training.
It should be noted that 3 American soldiers were killed and 4 were injured as a result of a collision between two HA 64 Apache helicopters in the US state of Alaska last week, while in the same period, 9 soldiers were killed in another helicopter accident.
