A decision will be taken today in a special meeting of the caretaker provincial cabinet regarding the payment of salaries and pensions to government employees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before Eid.
Sources of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Department say that the meeting will propose the release of salaries for April and pension in May.
Sources have said that there is no money in the treasury to pay salaries and pensions to the employees, giving salaries and pensions will default the province, the provincial government will have to take a loan to save the province from default.
According to the finance department document, the provincial government has an option to borrow at 21 percent interest, and will have to pay 45 billion rupees for salaries and pensions.
Proposals regarding payment of salaries and pensions before Eid have also been prepared, according to which the payment of salaries and pensions of Grade 1 to 4 employees amounts to Rs 13 billion 70 crore.
20 billion rupees to pay salaries and pensions to employees from grade 1 to 7, 22.5 billion rupees to employees from grade 1 to 11.
Payment of salaries and pensions to employees from grade 1 to 16 amounts to Rs 38 billion 70 crores.
