Lahore: The JIT formed to investigate 10 cases registered against Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders was challenged in the court.
The application against JIT was heard in Lahore High Court.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh rejected the plea to stop the JIT from working immediately and issued notices to the Punjab government and other parties.
The court adjourned the proceedings till April 10, directing the parties to submit their respective responses at the next hearing.
PTI leader Musrat Jamshed Cheema challenged the JIT set up by the Punjab government in the Lahore High Court. In the petition filed in the court, it has been argued that the police have registered false and baseless cases against PTI leaders including Imran Khan.
In the petition submitted in the court, it has been said that the Punjab government has issued a notification by forming an illegal JIT. Terrorism provisions cannot be imposed in the listed cases nor can this JIT be constituted to investigate it. The JIT constituted by the government is also against the police rules.
In the petition, the Lahore High Court has been requested to quash the notification of the formation of the JIT and also stop the court from issuing summons notices to the JIT Convenor.
