effects of inflation; Ladies tailors are sitting on their hands during Ramadan

Those involved in the tailoring work say that the house full board installer has gone away

Karachi: The impact of inflation has been noticeable on ladies tailoring, with orders down by 30% this year compared to last year.

The wages of sewing women’s dresses for Eid have been increased by up to two hundred rupees this year. People associated with the tailoring work say that the house full board installer has gone away, besides the wages of the artisans, the tailoring work is being affected due to the increase in demand for materials, sewing garments and non-supply of electricity. Taylors are sitting on their hands.

Women say that household expenses have increased this year, only one dress for themselves, while they are sewing two suits for children. On the other hand, the shop of sewing women at home shone, women were busy sewing Eid dresses at reasonable prices.

According to the details, with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, there is usually a rush at the tailor shop in other parts of the city, but this year due to inflation, the work of tailors has been severely affected.

According to a recent survey by Express News, it has been revealed that till some time ago tailoring work was booming in Karachi and artisans used to come to Karachi from the interior to earn the season, but this year, the loyal customers are also buying tailor-made clothes.

Artisans who know how to sew earn extra income by doing tailoring work during Ramadan. This year there has been a significant decrease of 30% in orders from busy tailoring shops. 12 hundred while tailors in posh areas have increased their prices further.

The tellers said that the customers were so tied up that they did not have time to wake up until Eid. They used to put up new booking boards in the first decade, but this year there is no profit. Will have to come at the same price.

Tanveer Ahmad, a tailor of a tailor shop based in Nazimabad, said that 250 elastic 350, 60 chalk 150, 40 bikram 70 rupees, 160 cord has become 250, while buttons, thread, lace, needle, The price of silk has doubled due to which women have turned towards hand-stitched clothes.

The number of customers is increasing nominally, last year the junior staff worked more than 14 hours a day to meet the target, this year the staff is the same, there is no busyness, only 3 more suits are being sewn than normal days.

Tailor Amjad Abbasi of Scheme 33 said that during the month of Ramadan, we try to take as many orders as we can deliver on time. The trend of sewing clothes is increasing in households. Shops are open from morning till late at night, but new customers are not coming. Driving has also become difficult. The prices are increased according to the material, no extra charge is made.

Amjad has said that it is expected that women will come by the second decade, due to less time, they have to sew clothes quickly, then if something goes wrong, the customers get angry.

Women are preferring to have their clothes sewn online at home to avoid the hassle of shopping at tailor shops before Eid, says Atiya Nawab, a resident of Safura. The cost of sewing increases due to receiving more orders, the tailors do not even pay proper attention. Why is the shirt short, then the excuse is that the cloth was too short, well, “this is what is trending these days” would be better. Atiya said that I have come to get my dress corrected by another tailor and now I will shop online.

Sanam, a resident of Scheme 33, said that the tailor always forgets all the instructions during the month of Ramadan. Last year too, the lace was added at the wrong place and the sleeves were lengthened. The tailor deliberately changes the dress, which is totally disappointing. Sanam said, “I don’t do experiments for Eid dresses, but I get my clothes sewn by my old tailor.” Tailors should write all the details carefully so that the day of Eid is happy.

While the tailors’ business suffered, the shop of the home seamstress flourished.

Faria Khan, a woman based in Karachi, said that the tailor made the excuse of load-shedding and too much work, so I am a housewife who sews clothes at home especially during the month of Ramadan. They also make clothes on time.

Zeenat, a woman who sews at home, said that every year I sew in Ramadan, I earn up to 10,000 per day.

Most of the women have also expressed their dissatisfaction over the exorbitant charges for sewing clothes by the tailors and demanded the concerned administration to maintain a check and balance on the market rate. According to the tailors, the cost of sewing materials like bikram, thread, buttons, overlocks, and the cost of ironing the sewn garments has also increased significantly, which has increased the wages of the tailors.
