Disclosure of non-availability of teachers and labs in colleges to start 4-year BS program

Colleges wishing to start 4-year BS programs have revealed non-availability of teachers for relevant subjects and lack of laboratories and computer labs.

According to the details, the Department of College Education has recommended the University of Karachi to give affiliation to 28 government colleges of the city for various subjects, however, in the notice of the authorities, it has been said that the required faculties of the government colleges have 4-year B. S program affiliation is required, they do not have teachers for these subjects, nor do these colleges have laboratories and computer labs.

In the light of Sindh High Court’s decision, a committee consisting of principals of 6 government colleges of Karachi was constituted to submit their recommendations on the issue of affiliation of BS program between colleges and universities.

Sources of the College Education Department told “Express” that two meetings of the said committee have been held so far. In this meeting of the committee, it was told that the colleges for which affiliation with University of Karachi is being sought, there is already a severe shortage of teachers of the required qualifications and the colleges are barely having intermediate classes and teachers of many subjects are not available. .

In the meeting, the question was raised that in this situation, how will the University of Karachi give affiliation to these colleges for four-year BS program, while for the BS program, MPhil/PhD teachers are preferred.

On this occasion, it was also revealed that the College Education Department has obliged the government colleges to buy all the books from the National Book Foundation for the last 4 years, while the Foundation does not have the books of the relevant subjects, so when the Foundation Intermediate If the colleges cannot meet the demand at the level, how will they provide higher education syllabus books at the BS level?

In the same meeting, the issue of lack of computer labs and scientific laboratories and non-availability of computers and scientific equipment in colleges was also discussed.

“Express” contacted the Director General Colleges Sindh Professor Shadab Hussain on this matter, he admitted all the difficulties mentioned in connection with the affiliation of the BS program. Professor Shadab Hussain said that the Sindh Public Service Commission is now appointing teachers and it is hoped that the shortage of teachers in colleges will be removed. On the question of MPhil/PhD teachers, he said that there are MPhil/PhD teachers and their posting has to be managed.

On the question of purchase of books, DG Colleges said that we are preparing a summary to the Secretary College Education in which it will be recommended that principals can purchase books from the open market and also give them a possible budget.

It should be noted that after the closure of the two-year graduation program across the country, the associate degree program has been introduced, but the enrollment of students in it is very limited. Recommended for admission to start 4-year BS degree program in some other subjects including Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English, Computer Science, Home Economics and Commerce.

Department of College Education has told University of Karachi that DJ College, SM Science College, Commerce College, Premier College, PECHS College, Government College Zamzam Clifton, Adamji College, National College, Foundation College, Malir Kent College , Superior College, Rana Liaquat Ali Khan College, Khatun Pakistan College, Ship Owner College and Bufferzone College and other colleges should be affiliated to start BS program in the above subjects.
