For the first time in Pakistan’s 76-year history, minority students were allowed to read textbooks of their own religions in schools, the National Book Foundation will publish books for these students.

Students of Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, Sikhism, Bahai, Kalash and Zoroastrian minorities will be able to read textbooks containing information about their religions from first to third grades.

Currently, it will be applied to educational institutions established in the federal capital and schools under the federal ministry of education. Earlier, the minority students were being taught morals textbooks instead of the prevalent Islamic studies in educational institutions.

When contacted by “Express”, the head of the National Curriculum Council, Maryam Chaghatai, said that “we are also sending the draft of the books that are being prepared to the provincial governments. If any province demands from us, they should send it through their respective book boards.” These books can be published. “

He further said that we have received a request in this regard from Punjab, Punjab is interested in teaching textbooks according to their religions to minority students in their schools.

He further said that according to the NOC, initially these books will be published in Urdu language in which textbooks for Bahai sect from first to fifth class will be published while for Hinduism, Kalash, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism and Sikhism. Therefore, students from grades 1 to 3 and from grades 1 to 4 belonging to the Christian religion will be able to read textbooks containing their religious information.

These books will be in accordance with the National Curriculum for Religious Education and will be issued without any cultural, linguistic or ethnic bias.

These textbooks will not include any material against any religion or against Pakistan and the state, all authentic references of holy books will be included in the books, while all the maps included in them will be from the Survey of Pakistan. Will match.
