Sahir Ludhianvi (second and last part)

Sahir shifted from Ludhiana to Lahore in 1943 and became associated with several Urdu newspapers there. In 1949, when he wrote an article against the government of Pakistan in Sawira newspaper, whose editor was Hameed Akhtar, an arrest warrant was issued for him. Hameed Akhtar advised Sahir to leave here.

Sahir came to Delhi but stayed there only for a month and then moved to Bombay (Mumbai) where his neighbors were Gulzar, who helped Sahir a lot.

If the pages of Sahir’s personal life are opened, it is found that in the beginning his life passed through many difficulties, he was threatened by his father lest he might kidnap him.

Sardar Begum sold her jewelery and hired a guard who used to take Sahir to school and bring him back. For Sahir, his father was just a cruel and oppressive landlord.

Who, after leaving Sardar Begum, immediately got married again and left the mother and son alone.

There were many complexes in Sahir’s life, he had smallpox in his childhood which left its mark on his face, he was tall and handsome, many ladies wanted to marry him but he did not marry anyone, just something. Time moved on and then the paths changed.

Let us become strangers once again

Do not let my heart beat in my words

Do not reveal the secret of your conflict

I don’t have any hope of favor from you

Do not look at me with wrong eyes

If the introduction goes bad, it’s better to forget it

If the relationship becomes a burden, it is better to leave it

A myth that cannot be fulfilled

Nice to leave it with a beautiful twist

Let us become strangers once again

Four women came into Sahir’s life and they fell in love with Sahir, but Sahir could not settle down with any of them, soon the paths changed. In fact, children from broken homes have not one but many complexes.

As soon as Sahir regained consciousness, he saw his parents fighting, perhaps this was the reason that they did not trust the institution of marriage or perhaps they thought that they would not be able to focus on their poetry because they were in the cycle of domestic violence. I think that childhood deprivation and parental fights made Sahir averse to married life from the beginning.

I know a family that consists of two highly educated brothers and one sister, all three are not married, and all three siblings were spoiled by the daily quarrels of their parents in their childhood, even though they retired from high positions. Since no one got married, all three of them call marriage a waste.

Sahir’s first stormy love was with Punjabi poetess Amrita Pritam. Amrita wanted Sahir madly. She first met Sahir in a mushaira in Lahore and she lost her heart. Amrita was married at that time, but later in 1944, Amrita left her husband.

Sahir also wanted Amrita very much, but despite such closeness, the matter did not reach marriage. Then one day Amrita read a news in the newspaper that “Sahir has found his love” and there was the name of Siddha Malhotra, who was both a singer and a musician. The song from the film “Didi” which I have mentioned was also composed by Siddha Malhotra and sung with Mukesh. .

Then Sahir got engaged to fiction writer Hajra Masroor, who was mentioned by Hameed Akhtar in his columns in Express and he himself told us when we met him in Lahore, but that engagement also broke off.

Hameed Akhtar was Sahir’s childhood friend and loved Sahir a lot, but he also did not know why the engagement was broken and why Sahir does not marry. Perhaps his life is hidden in Sahir’s poetry.

A journey of a lifetime

See you soon

And memories are given

To suffer in solitude

Broken Talisman Covenant Love Something like this

Then the candle of desire could not be lit

Everything became closer and lost its attraction

He also could not avoid treatment

How heartbreaking were the accidents of love

We could not do anything else in life

Once Sahir told the musician Khayyam about the film “Pyasa” that “Khayyam Sahib! Let’s assume that the story of “Pyasa” is my story. “Pyasa” was made by Garudat, its hero is also a poet.

Know how they were people whose love got love

When we asked for buds, we got a necklace of thorns

What has time done?

You are not you, we are not us

Then Lata Mangeshkar came into Sahir’s life. Their love continued for a long time, Lata Mangeshkar wanted to get married, but the fate of the previous three love affairs still happened. It is strange that Lata Mangeshkar was a great singer, but she was close to the Muslims, but Dilip Kumar tied Rakhi and made her a brother, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan fell in love with her and the matter reached the point of marriage, but from the extremist Hindus. Even this marriage could not take place due to the killing of Ustad Fateh Ali Khan. Lata had immense influence and influence in the film industry.

No matter how many singers he darkened, all filmmakers and musicians obeyed Lata Mangeshkar’s orders.

Lata did not give songs to Runa Leela, Lata and Asha against Anu Radha Podwal and harmed the musicians by telling them, Suman Kalyanpur whose voice was similar to Lata was also dropped from films, no female singer Lata. K and his sister Asha could not stand the bond.

In India, Congress always wins with the votes of Muslims, before the election, Congress celebrated “Jishan Ghalib” for the votes of Muslims, Sahir was not afraid of anyone, he was very angry at this hypocrisy and he wrote this poem:

Twenty-one years have passed since independence

Then we went somewhere and thought of Ghalib

Turbat was where his residence was, where was his

Now an idea came to his eloquent mind

Hundred years that Turbat was longing for the cloak

Now there is a display of flowers of devotion on it

There is no mystery about Urdu

This celebration is a commotion and a conspiracy

Apart from Sahir’s film songs, the Qawwali of the movie “Barsata Ki Raat” has a literary glory. There is no evidence of such a Qawwali as written by Sahir in any film. The message of God’s love and immortal love to man is something to listen to.

We are not looking for a caravan, nor are we looking for a journey

My hobby house is looking for your guide

The only cure for those who do not want me is death

He who gives poison in the name of medicine is looking for the fodder

The commandment of Allah and His Messenger is love

That is, Hadith is love, Quran is love

Gautama’s and Christ’s desire is love

This universe is love and life is love

Ishq Sarmad Ishq is Mansoor

Ishq Musa’ is love like a mountain

This love is love love

Sahir says that when a person cries for someone’s death, he actually cries for being left alone, everyone cries for their own trouble.

Sometimes he cried on himself, sometimes on the circumstances

When the matter came out, I cried at every thing

Who cries for someone else, friend?

Everyone wanted to cry about something of their own

Let’s see what Sahir feels after seeing the tomb of Queen Noor Jahan:

This is the grave of Dakhtar-e-Jamhoor in Pahlavi Shah

How many lost legends it reveals

How much blood does the veil lift from the facts?

It reveals how many crushed lives

How fragrant buds from every branch

Scratches used to be taken for the sake of decorating the Haram

And she could not be free even withered

For the sake of the illusion of “Zal-e-Subhan”.

Sahir is considered to be one of those poets who had a strong hatred for the capitalist system. In Sahir’s speech, there are poems that are against monarchy and capitalism.
