New York: A common cleaning chemical may increase the risk of Parkinson’s disease by five times. This chemical called trichlorethylene is being used in many applications all over the world.
Trichlorethylene is commonly used in commercial dry cleaners, industrial products, wipes, paint removal chemicals and carpet cleaning products. Trichlorethylene (TCE) has been widely used around the world for the past 100 years.
TCE can also cause miscarriage, cancer, and other diseases, but it can increase the risk of Parkinson’s by up to 500 percent. It should be noted that TCE is also found in permanent stain removal products.
In a report published in the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease, University of Rochester neurologist Ray Dorsey and others describe at least seven celebrities who were exposed to TCE for a period of time and developed Parkinson’s disease.
In the 1970s, its indiscriminate use increased and annual consumption reached 60 million pounds. This directly or indirectly exposed over a million Americans to this chemical. It even reached homes.
Animal experiments have shown that TCE molecules enter the human body from the brain and skin. By going there, they destroy the cellular energy house i.e. Mitochondria. This affects brain cells (neurons) and thus increases the risk of Parkinson’s.
According to experts, this process is gradual and acts like a slowpoison.
