Diabetes increases the risk of dying from cancer

Leicester: People with type 2 diabetes have double the risk of dying from certain types of cancer compared to the general population, according to a new study.

Research has shown that patients with diabetes have an increased risk of dying from colon, colon or liver cancer.

According to a new study published in the journal Diabetologia, overall, people with diabetes have an 18 percent increased risk of dying from cancer. Whereas women who suffer from diabetes are more likely to die from endometrial cancer.

Researchers from the University of Leicester said the risk of cancer should be given the same attention as other complications from diabetes, such as cardiovascular disease.

A study funded by the charity Hope Against Cancer found that women with type 2 diabetes had a 9% higher risk of dying from breast cancer, and that the risk was increasing.

The scientists said it could be beneficial to widen breast cancer screening (currently in England for women aged 50 to 71) to screen younger women with diabetes.

In a study that lasted from 1998 to 2018, the team of researchers examined data from 137,804 British citizens with diabetes, who had an average age of 64 years and were followed for an average of 8.4 years. More than 39,000 people participating in the research died.

The study found that cancer deaths decreased slightly among people with type 2 diabetes between the ages of 55 and 65 during the study, but increased the number between the ages of 75 and 85.
