Helsinki: A study found that sedentary behavior in children and adolescents may increase their risk of an enlarged heart, heart attack, stroke and premature death.

In a study conducted at the University of Eastern Finland, researchers found that slow walking can increase heart size by up to 40 percent in young adults between the ages of 17 and 24.

Andrew Egbage, an associate professor and researcher at Jamia, said in a news release that laziness among children and youth is like a ticking time bomb. Evidence is mounting that laziness in children is a health risk that should be taken seriously.

Children who engaged in light physical activity, on the other hand, had a 49 percent lower risk of heart enlargement, the researchers said.

Andrew Agbege said that light physical activity is the cure for laziness. It is easy to do three to four hours of light physical activity every day. These activities include playing sports outside the home, walking and cycling, gardening, etc.
