Islamabad: The Supreme Court annulled the Election Commission’s decision to suspend the Speaker and reinstated the Speaker Balochistan Assembly Abdul Khaliq Achakzai.
The Election Commission’s order of re-polling at 12 polling stations of PB 51 Chaman was also annulled, while the court sent the matter back to the Election Commission with the consent of all the candidates.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan conducted the hearing. The Supreme Court ordered that the Election Commission should hear all the candidates and take a decision within 10 days.
During the hearing, Justice Aminuddin Khan remarked under which regulation the Election Commission ordered re-election at 12 polling stations. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked that the Election Commission looked at 12 polling stations but ignored others.
DG Law Election Commission said that only those 12 polling stations where high turnout was requested were observed.
It should be noted that the Election Commission had withdrawn the notification of the success of the Speaker while ordering re-polling on the request of the opposition candidate Asghar Khan Achakzai. Muslim League-N leader Abdul Khaq Achakzai challenged the Election Commission’s decision in the Supreme Court.
