fraudulent charges;  High Court's refusal to give services of 9 judges to Election Commission for Tribunals

Lahore: The Lahore High Court has refused to provide the services of judges to the Election Commission to form tribunals to investigate allegations of rigging.

On the issue of formation of tribunals to investigate the allegations of rigging in the general elections in the country, the Election Commission requested the names of 9 judges from the Lahore High Court to be appointed as a tribunal, on which the Lahore High Court appointed the judges. Due to shortage, increase in pending cases, the Election Commission has clearly refused to provide the services of 9 judges.

The Lahore High Court has sent the names of only 2 judges to the Election Commission for appointment to the tribunal due to the shortage of judges and the increase in pending cases, according to which

Justice Sarfaraz Dogar and Justice Sultan Tanveer will preside as the tribunal judges. After the Lahore High Court appoints 2 judges for the tribunal, the number of judges will be reduced to 37.

It should be noted that judges have not been appointed in Lahore High Court for two and a half years. The list has been sent twice to the Commission for the appointment of judges by the Supreme Court. Due to non-appointment of judges, the number of cases in Lahore High Court is increasing. More than 200,000 cases are currently pending in the Lahore High Court.
