Loneliness is the biggest factor in the death of obese people

New Orleans: A recent study found that social distancing or feelings of isolation are the leading cause of all-cause mortality in people with stroke.

According to media reports, a study published in the journal ‘JAMA Network Open’ suggests that treating loneliness and social distancing can reduce health problems in obese people.

The report says that although loneliness is on the rise worldwide, the study is important because people with obesity experience it more.

“Nutrition and lifestyle are the biggest factors in obesity-related diseases,” said lead author of the study and professor of epidemiology at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in the US.

“Our study highlights the importance of taking social and mental health into account to improve the health of people with obesity,” he said.

The research looked at data on nearly 400,000 people between March 2006 and November 2021. The results found that those who did not experience social distancing or loneliness had a 36 percent lower all-cause mortality rate than obese people who experienced greater isolation or social rejection. .
