Lahore High Court;  Petition against Imran Khan's disqualification referred to the larger bench

Lahore: The petition against the disqualification of former chairman PTI Imran Khan was handed over to the larger bench.

Justice Shujaat Ali Khan heard the petition against the disqualification of former Prime Minister and former Chairman PTI Imran Khan for 5 years in the chamber, in which Barrister Ali Zafar and Barrister Sameer Khosa appeared.

Justice Shujaat Ali Khan of Lahore High Court referred the request of founder chairman PTI to a 5-member larger bench.

In the petition filed by Imran Khan, it has been held that the Election Commission disqualified him for 5 years on August 8, 2023. The Election Commission took illegal action in haste to disqualify the petitioner from the election. The date of the election has been announced on the orders of the Supreme Court. The allegations leveled against the petitioner are baseless.

It has been requested in the petition that the court declares the 5-year disqualification of the Election Commission null and void and the notification of disqualification be suspended till the final decision of the petition.

Meanwhile, Justice Shujaat Ali Khan heard the petition against PTI’s order to re-hold the intra-party election in the chamber. Barrister Ali Zafar appeared on behalf of the petitioner, in which the court referred the petition to a 5-member larger bench.

In the petition, the stand has been adopted that intra-party elections should be held on June 10 last year according to the law and the constitution. The Election Commission passed an illegal order to hold intra-party elections again within 20 days. The Election Commission’s order is illegal and against the constitution. The Lahore High Court annulled the order of the Election Commission to conduct intra-party elections again. The court declared the intra-party election held on 10 June 2022 as valid.
