Decision to end key feature used between Instagram, Facebook

California: Technology company Metta is going to end the direct messaging feature between its subsidiary social media platforms.

According to an update released by Meta, users will not be able to use the ‘cross-app’ chat between Instagram and Facebook from mid-December this month.

Fortunately, old conversations between the two apps will be available to users, but they won’t be able to reply to someone or start a new conversation.

When introducing the feature, Meta said that cross-app chat would allow Facebook users to message friends and family without downloading Instagram (and Instagram users without downloading Facebook).

Experts have observed that the reason for this change by Meta could possibly be the Digital Marketing Act (DMA) of the European Union.

According to the media, DMA aims to make it easier for consumers to choose between different competing services. These services include social networking platforms, internet browsers and app stores.
