Wageningen: A new study has found that eating crisps can help with weight loss.
According to the results of the research conducted at the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands, if you have to chew your food more, the speed of eating is reduced by half of the normal speed, while the feeling of fullness is also accelerated, which is why you eat 20 percent less food. goes
In the study, researchers gave 50 people four identical lunches. Among these foods, two were highly processed while the other two were moderately processed.
In each category, there was one food that was hard and crunchy and difficult to eat, while the others could be eaten easily.
The study found that regardless of how processed the food was, there was a 26 percent reduction in caloric intake when the food was hard, possibly because the food was not easily cleared from the throat.
These meals included boiled rice instead of potato filling, crisp salad instead of cole slaw, and chewy chicken nuggets instead of fish bites.
Other foods included firm fresh apples instead of soft canned mangoes, and thick, flavorless yogurt instead of flavored yogurt, and tomato sauce instead of tartar sauce.
All foods contained the same amount of calories and were ranked according to their taste. But people reduced their intake of calories from hard and crunchy foods (eating about 300 fewer calories), because they ate less food.
The reason they ate less was because they chewed their food more before swallowing, which slowed down the entire system and reduced food consumption by about half.
Professor Ciaran Forde, senior author of the study, said they now have more than a decade of evidence that people like food with a texture that encourages them to eat slowly. For example, crunchy, hard or chewy foods can help reduce calorie consumption while providing the same level of satisfaction as a full meal.
