Birmingham: A new study shows that the majority of bodybuilders are unaware that the protein supplements they use can put them at risk of different types of infertility.
According to media reports, British researchers found in their study that four out of five male gym enthusiasts, 79 percent, reported using protein supplements as part of their fitness plan, while 14 percent admitted to doing so. Are supplements that contain high levels of the female hormone estrogen? They can cause infertility in men.
Morag Gallagher, assistant professor and lead researcher studying infertility at the University of Birmingham in the UK, explained that too much estrogen in supplements can cause problems with men’s sperm quantity and quality.
In other words, men taking protein supplements are unintentionally using harmful steroids, Gallagher added.
