London: Bone and muscle diseases are on the rise at an alarming rate and cases are expected to double in the next three decades.
According to a new study published in The Lancet Rheumatology Journal, joint, muscle and bone diseases will increase by 115% in the next 30 years. Experts have warned that by 2050, more than one billion people worldwide will suffer from musculoskeletal, bone, joint and spine diseases, which is more than half a billion in 2020.
The increase in bone and joint problems can be attributed to various factors and making certain lifestyle changes can help prevent or reduce these problems.
First of all, symptoms like joint pain or movement problems should not be ignored and should be seen by your doctor as soon as possible. Secondly, improper posture should be avoided and regular exercise should be done for better bone and muscle health.
Consultant – Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon Dr. Prashant BN said in this regard that it is very important for public health to deal with the rise in musculoskeletal disorders while a diverse lifestyle prevails. Additionally, early symptoms such as persistent joint pain or limited mobility should not be ignored. Regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and maintaining a healthy weight are preventive measures.
He also said that increasing awareness of these diseases and their treatment, especially among sedentary professionals, could significantly reduce the risks. Engaging in exercises and adopting physical activity is a guarantee of joint health.
Also, if any symptoms related to joints and bones appear, it is very important to seek immediate medical attention. Promoting awareness and maintaining a healthy musculoskeletal system can be a key step towards a healthier future.
