The Sindh High Court ordered the reinstatement of 12 students of Dawood Engineering University.
A two-member bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi heard a petition against canceling the admission of 12 students of Dawood Engineering University. Usman Farooq Advocate, counsel for the petitioners, submitted that the university has exams for students on December 4, 2023. These students should also be allowed to appear in the exams like other students.
The university’s lawyer stated that it is ready to re-admit the students. The counsel for the petitioner expressed satisfaction with the stand taken by the counsel for the university. Acting Chief Justice remarked that admissions should be given to students without any discrimination. The court disposed of the application against cancellation of admission of the students and ordered to restore the admission of the students.
During the hearing, Usman Farooq Advocate, the advocate of the petitioners, took the stand that the cancellation of the admissions of the students by the Vice-Chancellor is a clear violation of the rules. Cancellation of admission of students is a violation of Section 11 of Dawood Engineering University Act. It is not an illegal act to make a single petitioner an attorney.
The counsel argued that the Vice-Chancellor can cancel admissions only if there is an emergency situation and action is imperative. A meeting of the Disciplinary Committee was convened after the cancellation of admission and the minutes of the meeting came after the notification. The university had canceled the admissions of Mohammad Fahad, Izhan, Mohammad Faizan, Huzaifa and Mohammad Haseeb and the admissions were canceled without giving any show cause notice to the students.
