Decision to auction luxury vehicles given to the Chief Justice of Pakistan

Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faiz Isa has taken an important decision, according to which the luxurious vehicles given to the Chief Justice will be auctioned.

The Registrar Supreme Court has written a letter to the Cabinet Secretary and Chief Secretary Punjab, according to which the Mercedes-Benz worth 61 million purchased in 2020 will be auctioned, while the bullet-proof Land Cruiser provided by the Punjab government will also be auctioned.

The letter states that it is not appropriate to import luxury vehicles for constitutional posts. Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa did not use both vehicles. The proceeds from the auction of vehicles should be spent on public transport.

In the letter written by the registrar, it has been further stated that Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa has come to the knowledge that the Supreme Court bought a new Mercedes Benz worth 6.1 million for the Chief Justice in September 2020. A brand new bulletproof Toyota Land Cruiser was also provided by the Punjab government for the Chief Justice. Both vehicles are parked at Supreme Court Rest House in GOR Lahore.

The letter states that according to the rules, two vehicles have been provided to the Chief Justice and each judge. Justice Qazi Faiz Isa is neither using a Mercedes nor a bullet proof vehicle. Expensive imported vehicles for use by constitutional and public officials are an undue burden on the national exchequer. After selling both vehicles, this money should be spent on public transport.
