Commissioner Karachi orders DCs to conduct fire safety audit of high-rise buildings in the city

Karachi: Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Salim Rajput has issued orders to all Deputy Commissioners and related departments and institutions to conduct fire safety audits of all high-rise buildings in the city.

On the direction of Chief Minister Sindh, a Fire Safety Audit Committee has been established under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi, whose members include all Deputy Commissioners, Town Municipal Commissioners, Building Control Authority, Cantonment Boards, Civil Defense Department, Pakistan Rangers, Police, Provincial Disaster Management. Authority, Municipal Karachi DA, MDA, Rescue 1122 officers, K Electric site and representatives of Abad are included.

On Tuesday, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Saleem Rajput in his office, in which all the relevant institutions and administration officers participated. The commissioner said that fire safety audit of all high-rise commercial residential and government buildings in the city will be conducted so that effective measures can be taken to prevent fire incidents in high-rise buildings in future.

It was decided in the meeting that the officers of all the institutions along with their technical staff and experts will review the fire safety requirements and submit their report to the Commissioner Karachi.

The commissioner directed that all the institutions should complete the survey and audit work in maximum 25 days. He said that the report of all the institutions will be reviewed and after the review of the fire safety audit, the report will be submitted to the Sindh Chief Minister in 30 days.

According to the rules and regulations of the committee, in all safety audits, shopping malls, shopping malls, residential government high-rise buildings will be examined to see if the buildings have the required automatic fire extinguishers, fire safety mechanisms or not, in case of fire. Whether there are emergency exits from the building or not, the quality of electrical wiring is as per approved safety rules.

The committee has also been directed to review the building plans approved by the Building Control Authority to see if the building rules are being followed or not.

The committee will present suggestions for prevention of fire safety in its report. It was decided in the meeting that all the deputy commissioners will immediately organize a meeting of the relevant institutions and departments in connection with the fire safety audit in their respective districts and take measures. Will review.

The Deputy Commissioners will form survey teams under the supervision of Assistant Commissioners at the district and sub-division levels who will visit and survey all high-rise buildings, shopping malls and shopping centers in their respective areas as per the rules and regulations of the committee.

The Commissioner directed all the Deputy Commissioners to give a presentation to him (Commissioner Karachi) in the next meeting with the help of graphs, charts and pictures.
