Strenuous exercise weakens the human body's immune system, research shows

Scientists collected plasma, urine and saliva samples from the firefighters before and after exercise.

Researchers say that immediately after intense and excessive exercise, the immune system of the human body weakens.

A large number of people exercise as a hobby to stay physically fit, but there are many professions that require vigorous exercise. Firefighting is one such profession, where firefighters are required to exercise regularly to stay fit.

In a study published in the medical journal Military Medical Research, fluid molecules (molecules) were obtained from 4,700 firefighters after strenuous exercise and analyzed.

According to Ernesto Nakayasu, a biomedical scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), who was part of the team of researchers, the analysis of the cells revealed that the respiratory system of these people was affected by a viral infection immediately after strenuous exercise. The risk increases. This is because excessive exercise weakens the body’s immune system and weakens its ability to fight off invading germs.

There are countless studies confirming the positive effects of moderate exercise on the human body’s immune system, but the effects of vigorous exercise on the body’s ability to fight disease are still debated.

Nakayasu and his fellow scientists collected blood plasma, urine and saliva samples from firefighters 45 minutes before and after exercise for their research.

Analyzing these samples, the scientists concluded that the firefighters’ immune system slowed immediately after exercise.
