Lahore: The caretaker government of Punjab has changed the name of Walled City of Lahore Authority to “Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority”. The name of the authority has also been changed, extending the jurisdiction to the entire province.

The purpose of expanding the scope of the Walled Cities Authority is to provide a comprehensive legal framework, special institutional arrangements for effective conservation of walled cities across Punjab and preservation of heritage properties.

Under the Ordinance, the new name of the authority has been changed to “Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority”. The Department of Law and Parliamentary Affairs has issued a notification for the change of name.

Director General Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority Kamran Lashari said in this regard that the authority will work on the special historical places and culture of the entire Punjab like Walled City Lahore and will try to secure it.

Earlier, while expanding the scope of the Walled City of Lahore Authority, important historical places including Shalamar Bagh, Jahangir’s tomb and other places under the management of Punjab Archeology were handed over to the authority.
