Educational institutions closed due to smog in Lahore, work from home order in offices

The problem of smog is not only of Lahore but of entire Punjab, Lahore High Court

The Lahore High Court ordered the closure of private private schools and colleges across the city on Saturday to control smog and directed to implement work from home for two days a week.

The court remarked that there are piles of garbage in Lahore and its surrounding areas. Do an event on a Sunday or any other day where school children are invited to pick up litter. This is done all over the world.

The court further directed that the event can be started under the name of Clean Lahore.

Justice Shahid Karim of the High Court heard the petitions of citizen Haroon Farooq and others for the elimination of smog. Government officials appeared on the court order.

Sahibzada Muzaffar Ali, Legal Advisor, submitted the report on behalf of Commissioner Lahore. According to which there were incidents of setting fire to crop residues in Nankana and Sheikhupura. Other officials including Nankana Sahib and Patwari of Sheikhupura were suspended.

It is stated in the report that green line was made from Istanbul Chowk to Mall Road in Lahore to promote cycling. Proposals for giving bicycles to employees of LDA, WASA and PHA have been sent to the caretaker Chief Minister.

The court directed the members of the Judicial Water Commission to hold a meeting with the caretaker chief minister on Friday and remarked that better work is being done on smog in Lahore than in other districts. Because Commissioner Lahore is taking personal interest.

The lawyer PHA told the court that the bikes of all the PHA employees are being converted into electric bikes.

The court made it clear that electric bikes will be more useful if they work at the government level.

The court inquired from the LDA lawyer that he should tell by when the ongoing development projects in Lahore will be completed. The LDA said that 90 percent of the work has been completed and will submit a report in this regard at the next hearing.

The court assured that it has to be ensured that the smog that was there two weeks ago does not happen again and the smog problem is not only of Lahore but of entire Punjab.

The court directed the Judicial Commission to meet the Chief Minister on November 17 or 18 and adjourned the hearing till November 17.

The court ordered a complete shutdown of schools and colleges on Saturday while implementing the work-from-home policy.
