12th death from Nigellaria confirmed in Karachi this year

Karachi: The Sindh Health Department has confirmed the twelfth death due to Nigleria foleri this year.

According to Express News, according to the Sindh Health Department, a 38-year-old resident of Scheme 33 Gulshan Mimar died due to Naegleria. The deceased had symptoms of fever, headache and vomiting on November 7.

The person who died of Nigelaria stayed at home till November 8 and took the prescribed medicines, while on November 9 the victim was brought to the emergency department of a private hospital and was admitted to the ICU ward as his condition became critical.

Due to slow heartbeat, the patient was put on ventilator, despite the provision of medical aid by the hospital administration, the patient could not recover and died last night.

Symptoms of Naegleria fowleri include headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, neck stiffness, altered mental status and seizures, medical experts said. Naegleria fowleri is a brain-eating amoeba. It can be easily killed by chlorine. Add chlorine to municipal water tanks as per World Health Organization guidelines.
