Chairman WAPDA visited Mohmand Dam where he was told that the dam will be completed in 2026, which will generate 800 megawatts of electricity, additional water will be available for 160 thousand acres of cultivated land, 300 million gallons of drinking water per day for Peshawar. will also be provided.
According to Express News, Chairman WAPDA Engineer Lt. Gen. Sajjad Ghani (retd) visited Mohmand Dam Project, reviewed the construction activities at various sites of the project including spillway and diversion tunnels.
Chairman WAPDA directed the contractor to complete the diversion of river Swat for the project during the current season of low water flow and said that additional resources should be ensured for the timely completion of the diversion system.
On behalf of the project officials, Chairman WAPDA was briefed on the construction of diversion tunnels, spillway, project colony and roads and said that efforts are being made to complete the diversion system as per the timelines.
The chairman was told that the completion of Mohmand Dam is scheduled in 2026, it has a water storage capacity of 1.2 million acre feet, this dam will generate 800 megawatts of low-cost and environment-friendly hydropower, 18 thousand 233 acres of new land will be irrigated. Additional water will also be available for 160 thousand acres of land under cultivation, the project will also provide 300 million gallons of drinking water to Peshawar city per day.
