Deadly disease spread in Pakhtunkhwa, 328 cases reported, 16 people died

Peshawar: 16 people died due to the spread of deadly disease in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 328 cases of the disease have been reported so far.

According to the health department, several districts of the province have been gripped by the deadly diphtheria disease, which has affected children and adults. Currently, 328 infected cases of diphtheria have been reported from across the province, while 16 deaths have also occurred due to diphtheria.

The affected people range from 6-month-old babies to 68-year-olds, but the health department does not even have anti-diphtheria serum for diphtheria patients, making the situation even more alarming. Patients coming to the hospitals are also facing severe problems due to non-availability of ADCs.

According to the Health Department, cases of diphtheria have been reported from 28 districts of the province. In these districts, Peshawar, Kohat, Kirk, Khyber and Charsadda are the most affected. 68 cases have been reported from Peshawar alone.

According to the Department of Health, diphtheria can be prevented with complete vaccination of children. 3 doses of pentavalent vaccine are sufficient for children, but adults and even elderly people in the province are susceptible to diphtheria. The health department has faced serious problems.

The spokesperson of EPI program said that electronic immunization registry program of children has been started in the province, which is being accessed by every child. After the cases of infected children above 2 years of age, the campaign has been conducted 6 times. . Most of the cases of children under 5 years of age are cases of refusing parents. He said that cases of affected children have been reported from Balochistan and Sindh, which are now being investigated by aid agencies.
